Manual and automatic optical machines, designed and prototyped between 2014 to 2017.
Manual Rings
(Plexiglas, PVC and paper)
It’s a series of 3 couple of identical optical rings. They’re composed of a circular PVC frame laser cut and a 'screen’ that is printed semi-transparent paper for the Small and the Medium, while the Large is made of printed transparent PVC.
Overlapping two of them and moving them counterlight will show a lot of geometry that do not, practically, exist.
Motor Rings
(for Technics 1200)
This is a series of 12” discs that creates very sensible and diverse optical movement.
The constant speed is provided by the turntable motor. We can apply a second speed rotating in favour or against the first movement.
This is a quick demonstration of how the rings interact. Most of the documentation of this project is made of quick and dirty videos in the lab.
A second video showing different types of framer. Different framers create different effects at different speed.
